Eternal Perspective

Life Verses:

Matthew 16:24-26: If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?

2 Corinthians 4:17-18: For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Matthew 6:33: But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be given unto you.

Life Quote:

"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose." Jim Elliot

It’s not a matter of no gratification, but delayed gratification in the pursuit of ultimate gratification. It’s forgoing present temporal gratification to achieve future eternal gratification.

James 4:14 What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

Live for the line and not for dot. Choose daily to invest in eternal values.

Wisdom from the aged (interview with 50 people over age 95):

What would you do differently if you had your life to live over again?

1.Reflect more (the unexamined life is not worth living)
2.Risk more (true risk comes not with action but with comfortable inaction)
3.Do more things that would outlive themselves—live a legacy

Three Things that are Eternal: Invest daily in these three things…

1.God
2.His Word
3.People (People are more important than things)

If you read history you will find out that the Christians who did most for the present world were precisely those who thought most of the next. C.S. Lewis

In our final moments we all realize that relationships are what life is all about. Wisdom is learning that truth sooner rather than later. Rick Warren

Our entire life is about pursuing God and allowing Him to bring about radical Christ-likeness in us.

The #1 enemy of spiritual growth is busyness. Most of the time it is busyness with "good" things.

To make the best use of this life…you must never forget 2 truths: 1st compared with eternity, life is extremely brief. 2nd: earth is only a temporary residence. Rick Warren

Aim at heaven and you get earth thrown in, aim at earth and you get neither. C.S. Lewis
